About United catalysts
We have collaborated as conceptual artists since 2001. Both of us are drawn to the use of art as a transformative tool, and we chose the name United Catalysts as a reminder to us of art's power to spark new ideas, make connections, and reveal the inherent beauty of the world around us.
We consider our different skill sets, experiences and points of view as a type of binocular vision. This leads us to take on projects with multiple facets, and to choose our media based on its connection with the subject at hand. Working this way has taken a lot of ego out of the art making process for us. It doesn't matter to us which one of us paints something or solves a specific problem, as long as we are moving forward with our vision of how a particular project serves its purpose.
In 2003 we were accepted to the MFA program of University of Nevada, Las Vegas as a collaborative team. Since then we have worked and traveled extensively together, including residencies at Petrified Forest National Park and Oakes Creek Ranch in the Texas panhandle, and we have collaborated on a variety of site and community-specific conceptual art projects that need both of our skill sets to accomplish. We both live and work as college art instructors in Southern California, and are always looking for new creative adventures and interesting stories to tell.
